Case study: Realigning teams with a one-day workshop

  We wish we’d done it sooner

This is the most common piece of feedback we get from founders, product owners and design leaders after we've run our Roadmap Reset workshop with their team. 

Our workshop gives teams the opportunity to come together, discuss goals, identify blockers and realign priorities. In the space of just one day, teams are refocused and re-energised, with the clarity and knowledge they need to deliver quickly and effectively.

Creating tools for compassionate leadership

Jo Healey, an experienced journalist, developed successful tools and training designed to support journalists in having difficult conversations with people in traumatic situations. She secured funding to design an app, called Talkwith, that would give employees from a range of industries skills to support colleagues experiencing difficult life events. 

Because this was an entirely new and innovative product, the needs of the market and of individual users were unclear and there were many possible ways in which the app could be structured and designed. Nightingale ran a one-day workshop with the Talkwith team, with the aim of providing focus and direction, ensuring that the available funding was put to the best possible use. In the workshop we explored:

• The short and long term goals of the business

• The benefits and risks of developing an app

• Target audiences and their characteristics

• Key questions that needed to be answered

• Research methods that could be used to understand the market and shape the app

Drawing on our experience of working with large organisations and startups, the Nightingale team asked challenging questions, identified potential blockers and highlighted opportunities, allowing the Talkwith team to begin their project from a position of confidence and strength. Nightingale continued working with the Talkwith team throughout the project, carrying out qualitative research with potential users. The team’s expertise and focus, combined with the information provided by the research allowed the Talkwith team to develop a highly desirable app that immediately secured interest from buyers. 

Developing tech for the high street

The High Street Experts were experienced consultants who secured Innovate UK funding to develop a tech solution that would support and revitalise street markets. To set a strong foundation for this major project, we dedicated four hours to an in-depth, structured workshop in which we:

• Discussed the overall business and project goals in-depth

• Drew out and explored what was already known

• Identified key unanswered questions

• Flagged up potential risks and blockers

• Clarified any points of disagreement and confusion

• Set a clear, realistic plan with milestones and measurable outcomes

The result was a team with a well-defined shared purpose, working together to deliver a successful and productive project.
